Eat Well Age Well is a national project tackling malnutrition in older people living at home in Scotland, specifically those who are under-nourished and not eating enough.
Estimates show 1 in 10 older people in Scotland are at risk or suffering from malnutrition, which equates to 103,000 people. In the 21st century, we think this is unacceptable and we are working to develop initiatives that will make a difference to older people.
We provide resources including leaflets, videos and guides to help raise awareness and aid the prevention of malnutrition and for those who work, care or volunteer with older people we offer training on ‘Raising the Issue of Malnutrition’ and deliver the REHIS Eating Well for Older People course.
Our ‘Small Ideas, Big Impact’ fund provides small grants between £50 - £5000 for projects and ideas that will help support older people to eat well and combat malnutrition and we are developing our own ‘Tests of Change’ projects to identify what does and doesn’t work in addressing malnutrition in older people.
We understand that as adults grow older that their appetite and access to food and drink may change, research into the prevalence of malnutrition in Scotland is imperative. To explore this in more detail we are working in partnership with the University of Glasgow to conduct a research study.
