Connects

Connects is Food Train’s newest service and is available to older people Scotland-wide.

Connects aims to connect any older person (65+) wishing a little extra practical or social support with a local volunteer eager to help in their local community.

To begin with, Connects is offering two main services, however over time we will be adding additional support services - so watch this space!

Shopping Friends

ShoopingMan

Our Connects shopping service will match you with a local volunteer ‘friend’ who will contact you weekly (or less if wished) to collect your shopping list. They will then do your shopping and safely deliver at an agreed time, also helping you to put your shopping items away if necessary.

To access this service there is a £1 membership charge renewed annually and a £7 per shopping service charge to allow Food Train to cover our administration and volunteer expenses costs. Food Train deals with all payments, therefore no money should change hands between volunteer and customer.

Phone Friends

PhoneMan

Phone Friends is an additional service available to all Food Train members. This service connects you with a volunteer ‘friend’ for a regular blether on the telephone, a check-in on your wellbeing, an opportunity to share any concerns and importantly a chance to share a laugh or two. Phone calls can take place weekly, fortnightly, or less often if wished.

If this sounds appealing, you can let us know when signing up for another service or at any time after you start using the service. You can speak to a member of the Connects team on 0141 551 8118 or alternatively speak to a member of staff at your regional branch office, who will arrange for a member of the Connects team to give you a call.

This service is free of charge.
