April 2012 - Food Train Stirling set to grow
Up until now, Food Train Stirling have operated with only one van delivering to all of our customers. We have now taken delivery of a 2nd van which will allow us to not only increase customers in the existing areas but also extend further into more rural areas - west to villages of Gargunnock, Kippen, Balfron, Killearn, Drymen and also north to Callander, Aberfoyle, Brig O Turk, Thornhill.
A major volunteer recruitment drive is currently underway to increase our volunteer numbers to cater for the 2nd van and increase in customers. It's essential more volunteers come forward to allow this to happen. January 2012 - New areas Bridge of Allan and Dunblane
On 16 January, Food Train welcomed its first customers from Bridge of Allan and Dunblane. Previously deliveries were within the Stirling urban areas so we are delighted to extend the service to customers in these new areas.
November 2011 - FoodTrain Stirling First Shopping Success
After weeks of careful planning and preparation, a dedicated group of Food Train volunteers made the first grocery deliveries this week in the Stirling area. Sixteen local older people were the first group to receive this new service and they all seemed delighted with their groceries and the "happy smiling volunteers". The support of local shops is crucial in providing good food access for older people and Morrison have been the first to offer their help and support. Over the coming weeks more and more older people will become Food Train customers and the sight of the van delivering around the Stirling area will become commonplace. The search for volunteers continues and anyone who has a little or a lot of time to spare can help out either shopping in store, out on the van delivering the groceries or in the office, just give us a call on 01786 450536 if you are interested in volunteering. Food Train Stirling Regional Manager Fran Thow said "it's been a great success this week, the volunteers and Morrison staff have all worked so hard to make our first week go smoothly, we look forward to helping many more older people over the coming weeks, months and years".
Stirling is the third area in Scotland to benefit from Food Train. Originating in Dumfries & Galloway and founded by older people, Food Train now covers West Lothian and Stirling as well as the original Dumfries & Galloway area with a new Food Train launching in Dundee in the new year.
